Elordium Newsletter #4 | Work in progress
Hi All,
During the last week, I have been working on three new articles, all of them targeting those who are at the beginning of their software development career:
Getting started with programming - A more extended article about what I would do if I had to restart my career
5 beginner project ideas - Beginner-friendly projects you can add to your resume
Jumping the experience gap - Getting hired for your first job with no previous experience
They are still a work in progress, but hopefully, I will be able to finish them during the following week.
Until then, here are my best findings for this week:
Video - 7 things that (quickly) cured my procrastination
by Better Ideas
Watch time: 13.5 minutes
I found this video in my Watch Later list, where it was sitting for who knows how many months. Ironically, if I had watched it earlier, I might have started this newsletter much earlier. You should watch this video if you tend to leave things to the last minute or have plans you have postponed many times. Or you can add it to your Watch Later list.
Article - What is tech debt and how can you explain it to non-technical peers?
by Leslie Chapman
Reading time: 5 minutes
Technical depth is one of the most challenging topics to communicate with non-technical team members. Feature requests and bug fixes are much easier to grasp, but missing tests, hidden security issues, or outdated documentation should also be addressed. In this article, you can get a perfect example with some tips on other similar topics.
Article - 6 Lessons Learned from Selling My Side Project for $20,000
by Benjamin Lin
Reading time: 6 minutes
From the title, I expected to read about someone who created a side project and sold it for 20k. What I got however were some handy tips on acquiring projects, building a more extensive user base, and finally, reselling it. Despite the misleading title, I still recommend reading this article.
I hope you enjoyed this week’s newsletter.
See you next week,
David
